After-hours care can include:

• Getting medical advice over the phone
• Referring you to urgent care
• Referring you to a hospital emergency room

The pediatric team provides you with expert guidance on what direction to take to treat your child quickly and effectively. Most pediatric needs can wait until the following day when you can schedule a same-day visit. But if your child needs immediate attention, the on-call clinicians can direct you to the best place of care.

How do I access after-hours care?

For after-hours care, call Northeast Pediatric Associates PA at 210-657-0220 and follow the prompts to reach the after-hours care helpline. The answering service picks up and transfers you to a pediatric nurse or to the provider who’s on call.

The answering service might ask you for your phone number, child’s name, date of birth, and a description of your child’s condition, whether they’ve suffered an injury or an illness.

This information can speed up the process of getting your child seen by your provider. If the answering service can’t transfer you, you should receive a call back in 5-30 minutes to get the guidance you need.

What conditions need after-hours care?

Conditions that can require an after-hours care call include:

• High fever
• Flu
• Continuous diarrhea or vomiting
• Severe abdominal pain
• Respiratory issues
• Fainting
• Suspected poisoning
• Suspected overdose of a dangerous drug
• Broken bones, deep wounds, or burns
• Allergic reactions
• Animal bite
